Nalanda House

Nalanda House takes its name from the ancient university of Nalanda, one of the most renowned centres of learning in world history. For nearly 700 years, Nalanda attracted scholars from across Asia — from China, Tibet, Korea, and Central Asia — who came to study Buddhism, logic, mathematics, astronomy, and medicine. The house draws on this legacy of curiosity, collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge.

House Activities

Throughout the year, Nalanda House members take part in a wide range of inter-house events at R.K. Senior Secondary School. House quizzers face off in the Inter-House Quiz Competition, while debaters sharpen their arguments in the debate tournaments held each term. On Sports Day, Nalanda fields teams across track and field events, basketball, and relay races. During the annual cultural festival, members stage group performances in music and dance, and the house also contributes to the art exhibition and the science fair with student-led displays. Regular house assemblies bring members together to plan these activities, share progress, and build the spirit of teamwork that the house is known for.

Message from the House Captain

When I was given the responsibility of leading Nalanda House, the first thing I thought about was the university our house is named after — a place where people travelled great distances just to learn. That is the standard we try to live up to. Our motto, "Always Alert, Defeat Avert," is something we actually use day to day — whether it is a quiz buzzer round that rewards quick thinking, a basketball match where one lapse can cost the lead, or simply being attentive in class. What I appreciate most about Nalanda House is that no one is left to manage alone. Seniors help juniors, and everyone contributes, whether on stage, on the field, or behind the scenes. We do not win every event, but we turn up prepared, we support each other, and we learn from every result. That is the house I am proud to represent.
